David Weiss
Dave resides in Vadnais Heights, MN where bonsai trees consume every inch of his south facing windows. Ten years ago he discovered the Minnesota Bonsai Society and his passion for the art of bonsai. Dave was the president of MBS for three years and is in his 5th year as lead instructor for the introduction to bonsai workshops. Dave’s YouTube channel has over a million views with over 700 videos documenting his bonsai journey. His five acres of land, Bonsai Acres, has trees in the ground for future bonsai and future bonsai retreats. Dave has worked with bonsai professionals Peter Tea, Andrew Robson, and Jonas Dupuich. A teacher for twenty plus years, Dave believes in life long learning and that bonsai is attainable to people of all ages. He thrives when given the chance to ignite the spark of bonsai in anyone that will give him just a moment of their time. Dave met Allen & Mark through MBS and the three of them want to share the wonderful hobby of bonsai with everyone.
Mark Lundquist
Mark has over 7 years of bonsai experience including 3 years teaching at bonsai workshops. Mark lives in St.Paul. Mark's passion for bonsai trees began when he lived in Taiwan and traveled throughout Asia. Mark's attention to detail and patience with this art helps others see how this hobby is attainable. One of his greatest pleasures is collecting native deciduous trees from friends' cabin land. Mark has worked with bonsai professional Andrew Robson and Dave at various workshops. His friendship with Dave & Allen grew from their volunteer involvement at the MN Bonsai Society. From the excitement of finding the front of your tree, to pruning and caring for the wonderful art form of bonsai...this is the passion Mark wishes to share with others through Triple Root Bonsai.
Allen Bernard
Allen is a native New Yorker, born in Brooklyn and raised about an hour north of NYC with parents who were avid gardeners. He got his degree in theatre from Alfred University and worked in the NYC theatre scene for about 10 years before moving with his wife to MN in 1997. They bought a house in Uptown and quickly became avid gardeners themselves. In 2019 they moved to Apple Valley and now have almost a half acre of vegetable and perennial gardens. About 3 years ago, Allen came across a Bonsai video on Instagram and he jumped in with both feet! He met Dave and Mark through the MN Bonsai Society, took some classes with Dave, and began his own Bonsai collection. He now has about 30 trees. Allen has always been hands-on and started creating pots and turntables as an extension of his love of woodworking and Bonsai.
